Ultimate Member Experience

I'm at the session done by Joseph A. Michelli, author of "The Starbucks Experience". He's talking about how associations can leverage experiences to better position themselves. He cites research saying 8 out of 10 leaders are saying that differentiating products and services alone are not cutting it and experience is the next battleground. As a speaker, he's quite down-to-earth and self-effacing, which seems to make the audience trust him.

Customer experience under a production-based manager: customer often feels like an afterthought, or, as if the company feels they are stupid.  Read more »

Jupiter Media/Mediabistro Deal

From Techcrunch, I spotted this piece of news: Jupiter Media, a New York-based digital services firm, acquired the writing community Mediabistro for $23 million. To me this is interesting because mediabistro fills most, if not all, the needs an association would--including health insurance plans for its members. Jobs of the Future

I don't usually read Seth Godin's Blog. I've read his books, and I agree with him generally, but a steady diet of Seth becomes a little Messianic for my liking. But I listen to him when he bubbles up through the other blogs I like.

Roommate at ASAE Chicago

Hey all, my buddy Jason Alba with JibberJobber.com is coming to the ASAE Conference in Chicago so I can introduce him to all my assn peeps. He's wondering if anyone (dudes only, I imagine his wife would appreciate) wants to split a room. Lemme know and I'll put you in touch. He'd be welcome to share with me but my room will be a little crowded w/ my family :)

Community Pitfalls

Somehow I missed these two posts from Bokardo on pitfalls in building social web applications. Why do I bring it up? Because almost all of them can and should be applied to our work in associations.

ASAE Conference Feedback

I'm going to the ASAE Annual Meeting in Chicago. It's my first time to the annual meeting. I am active in ASAE and have made some wonderful connections through the organization, and the staff I've worked with are great. I like to keep the tone positive here at my pad but here are some issues I'm having with the materials I've seen:  Read more »

Associations and bloggers

From Instapundit, here is an example of an association tradeshow leveraging blogger coverage. I think we're seeing this kind of thing increasingly in industries that have buzz around them. But I think we could use the approach in lots of places where it's not been used before.
